Call-Out: Costume Designer, Pop Art

Description

leo&hyde are a Manchester-based musical theatre company. We're a small and friendly team, who get excitable about new music, theatre and technology.

We're looking for a costume designer to be part of an upcoming R&D for a new 2-person musical called 'Pop Art', at Rural Arts in Thirsk, Yorkshire.

The story follows Lisa, of Mona Lisa fame, as she hops from frame to frame on a journey through the history of art. Along the way, she meets famous (and not-so-famous) faces from art history, each of whom share their story in a narrative-driven pop song. From Michelangelo to Frida Kahlo, Gentileschi to Van Gogh, Andy Warhol to Instagram, the story is an upbeat meditation on representation and the role of images in life after the internet.

Developed with Rural Arts, we're hoping to create a small-scale touring show with minimal set but maximal costumes. We’re excited to meet an imaginative costume designer to help us develop a visual language for the piece, taking visual cues from the artworks themselves and channelling them into something truly 21st century.

Over the course of the R&D, you will respond to the new work created with a range of mock-ups, taking into account a range of hypothetical budgets. This could be done remotely or on-site (and if on-site, then travel / accommodation will be provided)
