Tour Guide / Actor, The Ruins of Earth
leo&hyde are a Manchester-based musical theatre company. We're a small and friendly team, who get excitable about new music, theatre and technology.
The Ruins of Earth is a theatrical twist on a walking-tour. The audience experience it as a typical walking tour - groups of up to 15, led by a tour guide around a city. But there’s a twist. The audience are asked to imagine themselves as futuristic being visiting the remnants of human civilisation. The tour guide, X2-729, gives them human bodies to wear and shows them through are construction of a human city, as they try to discover what humans were, why they lived in cities - and why they are now in ruins. The AI-generated script is full of hilarious observations - but peppered with more profound observations about our urban lives.
The Ruins of Earth is commissioned by Manchester Independents, a development scheme brought together by cultural organisations across Greater Manchester, to support and connect independent talent in the region.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We’re looking for a Mancunian or Manchester-based tour-guide or actor to lead our audiences through Manchester. Some things we’re keeping an eye out for as well:
Walking tour experience - Ideally, someone familiar with the tropes and dynamics of walking-tours so you can bring this experience into the show.
Warm and comedic - Someone who can ensure the tour is funny and relatable whilst also create a safe, intimate space for the audience.
Sci-fi - A love for sci-fi will be great. The role will involve embodying a “fictional universe” so you can improv according to its roles where appropriate in the tour.
Rehearsals will be a mixture of self-led time learning the script, and time with Leo and team working to develop a route, and give directorial feedback and an outside eye on the script delivery.
DEADLINE: 14th July.
