Actor Call-Out for Workshops of Queueue (Closed 20/03/19)

We are currently casting the workshops of our immersive coffee-shop pop musical, Queueue, and are looking for actor-singers to join us! Theatre Deli are kindly supporting the project and we will be based at their site in Broadgate for the duration of this workshop development phase. We are looking for 8 actor-singers (4M, 4F) to join us on the journey, working with director Wilson Smith. The workshops will involve a double cast of 4 actors attending 5 days of workshops each, culminating in an industry sharing with both casts.

The dates will be as follows:

Cast 1: March 4-8, 20 (industry sharing)
Cast 2: March 14-15, 18-19, 20 (industry sharing)

We hope to use this as an opportunity to explore the indie-pop score in depth, as well as meet a range of singers and actors across London.

Please note: At this stage in development, our funding won’t cover full payment, but we have received a stipend from Theatre Deli to contribute to the travel expenses of all of our actors. If you can't take part for financial reasons but are interested in working with us in the future, we completely understand; feel free to introduce yourself, and we'll keep you in the loop for any future paid opportunities.

About Queueue

Queueue is a cool indie coffee shop, pretty much like your local - and you’re invited to sit in on a 21st-century musical odyssey whilst eavesdropping on a typical day in the cafe…

The hipster barista, Jazz, will brew you the perfect coffee and play you the best new music - except today, something’s off: the customers are more interested in his WiFi than his artisan coffee-blends. After stalking his friends’ more successful attempts at adulting, Jazz is still unable to work out what he’s “doing in life” and begins drifting to the brink of a quarterlife crisis. There are a hundred reasons to change careers; all he needs is one good reason to stick it out.

The story seesaws between the sober world of the cafe and the eccentric world of the internet, using a score of contemporary pop sounds to paint familiar scenes from modern life. Somewhere between a 21st century Chorus Line and Rent, Queueue is a highly caffeinated snapshot of millennial culture as seen through a coffee-obsessed, money-anxious and internet-addicted generation.

Roles / Singer Information

We’re very broad-minded about who we’d like to be involved: you might be trained in musical theatre, you might be an actor who can sing, you might be a pop singer or singer-songwriter who wants to try their hand at acting. This is a modern musical with a contemporary pop score, and we have just as much interest in finding brilliant pop voices as brilliant actors.

  • The founder and barista of the coffee-shop, Jazz is fun, chilled and likeable. However, he’s growing bored of his job and its prospects, and is entering a quarterlife crisis.
